Pope Leighey Visitor’s Center

Perhaps one of the most famous American architects in history, Frank Lloyd Wright, created a series of homes called the Usonian Homes. The Pope Leighy House was one of the first to be created and it is most notable for its quaint interior and threshold that beckons into the main living space. This project takes the ideas present in the conception of the Pope Leighey House and reinterprets them in a more modern sense.

The project is to be a visitor center for the many eager Frank Lloyd Wright super fans and entertainment space for the adjacent Woodlawn Plantation. Thinking of this duality of scale between the two spaces, we created a bridge or threshold that would connect both the Pope Leighey house and the Woodlawn Plantation. Think of this space as a fluid and adaptable space that can change given the program of either Pope Leighey House or Woodlawn Plantation.

This project was done in collaboration with colleague Daniela Toni.
